Summary

Sophia Rabe-Hesketh is a Professor in Educational Statistics at the Graduate School of Education and a member of the Interdepartmental Group in Biostatistics, both at the University of California, Berkeley. She also has a part-time position as Chair of Social Statistics at the Department of Quantitative Social Science, Institute of Education, University of London. She was previously a Reader in Statistics at the Department of Biostatistics and Computing at the Institute of Psychiatry in London.

Sophia is an applied statistician in the areas of social statistics, biostatistics and psychometrics. Her research interests include multilevel and latent variable modelling. Over the last few years she has been developing a general modeling framework (see GLLAMM below) and software to estimate the models. She is also involved in many collaborative projects with applied researchers.

GLLAMM

Generalised Linear Latent And Mixed Models (GLLAMM) are a general class of multilevel latent variable models. The framework unifies and extends generalized linear mixed models, multilevel factor and item response models, multilevel structural equation models, and latent class models. Sophia has written a Stata program, gllamm, to estimate these models as part of joint work with Anders Skrondal and Andrew Pickles. Since 2002, the program has been used in over 200 peer-reviewed papers indexed in the ISI Web of Science by researchers in education, sociology, political science, economics, medicine, and statistics. Click here to find out more or to download the gllamm program files.
